First off, Hil, what is a "Shredette"? A Shredette is the nickname I give my clients after my company name Shed 'n Shred Fitness. Anyone that follows me- my blog, my social media, my fit camps, and want to pursue a fit lifestyle is a Shredette to me! This year's Christmas Gift Guide is inspired by the fit camp I run in my garage. (You should recognize each piece from my workout videos.)
Each apparatus in this gift guide can be used for any level of fitness. Each one promotes functional training and a strong body. They are designed to challenge your entire body with every repetition. Buy one piece or buy them all and you'll have your very own home gym without the clunky machines taking up mass amounts of space.
I've been a big advocate for FitnessMats for a very long time. For those working out on concrete (garage) or tile or even hardwood floors, a FitnessMat is a MUST... like, absolute must! It's created to suspend your body-weight protecting your spine, knees, and elbows from the hard ground below. It's also very easy to clean!
Bonus: The MobileMat folds in half and easily slides under a bed or out of the way.
There isn't a muscle in your body that you can't strengthen using the Lebert EQualizer. Pull-ups, Hanging (Ab) Leg Raises, Bulgarian Split Squats are a few of my favorite exercises to do using these bars because they strengthen multiple muscles in one movement. They're lightweight and easy to store which make these a no-brainer for any fitness junkie!
Bonus: YouTube search "Equalizer Workouts" and you'll find hundreds of awesome exercises to do using them.
If you're not familiar with suspension training let me go ahead a change your life (for the better). The TRX Suspension Trainer allows you to modify difficult exercises, like a pull-up, until you master it. Once you've master an exercise the TRX can then take your bio-mechanics to the next level by making moves more challenging. Although the TRX looks very intimidating it's actually my favorite apparatus for beginners.
Bonus: Lots of TRX workouts coming to the blog soon. For now, you can find them on my Instagram @hilaryhallfitness.
This set of bands provides you with everything you need for resistance training. Most bands come individually with their own handles, but these unique bands have hooks instead of handles so you can pack on as much resistance as you'd like while holding onto just one handle (See image below). These make for a great gift to those looking to add muscle, strength and/or definition.
Bonus: Bodylastics are small and light which make them great for traveling.
Added Bonus: Click HERE for one of my favorite workouts using these bands.
Take your glute and ab training to the next level with this awesome travel set. These bands are used globally for those looking to achieve firm, round glutes. Hello JLo! The gliders take your plank and push-up moves up a notch when placed under your feet. Youtube search "ab glider moves" and you'll see what I mean!
My husband introduced these to me earlier this year when we were on a search for ways to improve our (preteen aged) boys athletic performance. As I started using KBands in my own training I realized that these are not just for teens and athletes, these are also great for the everyday person looking to boost their athletic performance. KBands will improve your squat form, build leg strength, and drastically enhance your cardiovascular endurance. These are a game-changer for those that run 5K-marathons, do mud runs, warrior dashes, etc.
EVERY single human needs a Swiss (Stability) Ball in their house! Whether they are pregnant and in need of some relief on their back, hips, and legs or if they want better posture while sitting at the desk of their home office they need a Swiss Ball!
Bonus: Click HERE for an awesome leg workout using a Swiss (Stability) Ball.
There are a number of free and relatively inexpensive interval timer apps for your phone (and I have a few), but for me personally I really like to be off my phone during my workouts. It's just too easy to see a notification pop up and get sidetracked. The Gymboss might remind you of a pager from back in the day- at least that's what it reminds me of. Very small and clips onto your clothes. This is a must for your friend that like tabata training, high intensity workout, and short burst workouts.
Most people think they want a treadmill or a spin bike for their house because it "could" motivate them to workout more, but the fact of the matter is 90% of them become coat hangers. Whether it be a speed rope or a basic jump rope, this super small, super lightweight, super inexpensive piece of cardio equipment is your ticket to success!
Bonus: Turn any workout into a cardio session by adding 30 second intervals between your sets.
Added Bonus: Use the jump rope to warm-up before your workout and/or for cardio afterwards.
*I personally prefer a speed rope over a thicker cable because jumping rope is similar to riding a bike; it comes right back to you quickly. Thicker cables are great for beginners and for reminding you how to do the exercise, but anyone can quickly advance to a speed rope. I guess you could say... Go speed rope or go home.
If you know someone that works out at home, I promise they'll be so grateful for any fun addition to their arsenal. Or if you're looking to add to your at-home workout space none of these will disappoint.
Last thing, if you're not sure how to use them there are a bunch of great videos on YouTube as well as my blog. I don't plan on stopping my workout videos anytime soon so stay in touch and be sure to drop me an email letting me know what you'd like to see more of.
