When most people think about summer fitness, they immediately start thinking about weight loss.
But if you’ve followed me for any length of time, you know that’s not how I approach fitness.
My goal isn’t simply to look fit.
My goal is to be capable.
Capable of chasing adventures.
Capable of walking miles on vacation.
Capable of keeping up with my family.
Capable of lifting, sprinting, hiking, swimming, traveling, and fully participating in life.
Summer should be a season we enjoy—not one we spend stressing about every meal or workout.
That’s why I wanted to share a few of my favorite summer staples that help me stay strong, energized, hydrated, and consistent.
These aren’t magic products.
They’re simply things that make healthy living easier.
And when healthy habits are easier, we’re much more likely to stick with them.
My Summer Strong Philosophy
As much as social media tries to convince us otherwise, you don’t need a complicated plan to stay healthy this summer.
You don’t need two-hour workouts.
You don’t need to eliminate entire food groups.
You don’t need to earn your swimsuit.
You simply need a few consistent habits.
For me, those habits revolve around four things:
● Hydration
● Protein
● Movement
● Recovery
When those four things are in place, everything else tends to work better.
Hydration Matters More Than Most People Realize

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that hydration starts long before a workout.
How you hydrate today impacts how you’ll feel tomorrow.
When temperatures rise, I make hydration a priority.

Some of my favorite summer hydration staples include:
● Water-rich fruits
● A large water bottle that goes everywhere with me
Hydration isn’t just about performance.
It affects energy, recovery, mood, and overall well-being.
Keep Fitness Simple
Summer schedules get busy.
Vacations happen.
Kids are home.
Life gets full.
Instead of trying to be perfect, I focus on staying consistent.
Some of my favorite fitness staples this year include:
● A jump rope (try this cordless jump rope)
● A running belt for outdoor walks and runs
I love having simple equipment available because it removes excuses.
You don’t need a gym membership to get a great workout.
You just need a plan and a willingness to move.
My Protein-First Rule
If you’ve trained with me, you’ve heard me talk about this before.
One of the easiest nutrition habits I’ve implemented is starting meals with protein.
Before I focus on anything else, I aim for roughly 20–30 grams of protein.
This helps support recovery, muscle maintenance, satiety, and energy levels.
Never leave home without:
Naturally fermented Meat Sticks
Simple habits like this often have a bigger impact than complicated nutrition plans.
Summer Style Meets Function

Let’s be honest.
Part of feeling confident this summer is having clothes and accessories that make us feel comfortable and prepared.
Some of my favorite finds this year include:
● A swimsuit I actually feel good wearing
● A great beach bag
Confidence doesn’t come from being perfect.
It comes from feeling prepared and comfortable in your own skin.
Family Favorites
Summer is also about making memories.
A few family favorites making our list this year include:
● Backyard games
● Beach games: Spike Ball
● Kan Jam
The goal isn’t just to stay active ourselves.
It’s to create opportunities for our families to move, explore, and have fun together.
My Challenge to You This Summer
Instead of focusing on losing weight this summer, what if you focused on becoming more capable?
What if your goal was to:
● Walk more
● Hydrate better
● Get stronger
● Sleep more
● Play outside more often
● Build a body that supports the life you want to live
That’s what Summer Strong means to me.
Not perfection.
Not restriction.
Not punishment.
Just consistently showing up for yourself and building a healthier, stronger version of you.
Because fitness isn’t about shrinking your life.
It’s about expanding what you’re capable of doing with it.
Have a wonderful Summer!
