Ring in the New Year with These 5 Goal Setting Tips

As you’re sitting down and plan your 2019 goals, consider this...

Let me start by saying I’m a huge fan of New Years resolutions; I’m pro goal-setting, vision boards, you name it. I believe it can be really powerful to set your intentions on what you want for the short-term, long-term, and everything in between.

Now, let's dive on in! I just listed 5 important things to consider when goal-setting that can help keep your intentions pure and your heart fixed on the Lord all while crushing your NEW YEAR goals.

1. KNOW YOUR VALUE. You were created with your own unique gifts and talents. There is so much worth & value in you that you haven’t even begun to see. So, don’t belittle your ambitions! Your ambitions are YOURS and they are valuable to those that they were meant to touch.

“Your value doesn’t decrease based off someone’s inability to see your worth.” -Unknown

2. KEEP YOUR STANDARDS HIGH OR RAISE THEM. Settling is easy. It’s doesn’t take any effort at all. For each goal that you list, think even BIGGER!

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭31:25‬ ‭NLT‬‬

3. RECOGNIZE WHAT SEASON YOU’RE IN. Take a good look at where you are in life (personally) and make sure your goals are compatible. It takes a strong person to say, “Yes, I’m going to accomplish this goal one day, but it is not realistic in the next year.” Then, set your focus on goals that are currently within reach.

For example, when I first had our third child I really wanted to start writing my second fitness guide. Although I was mentally ready, my demanding scheduling didn't allow. This year, now that our youngest is in preschool three-days a week, that gives me the opportunity to write again.

“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”

‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

4. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF. Something I always tell myself when my wheels start spinning and I think I’m not doing enough is, “Stay in your own lane, Hil”. Keep running your own race and you'll get to where you're going much faster.

“Comparison is the thief of all joy.” -Theodore Roosevelt

5. BE GOOD TO OTHERS. Look for opportunities to give back. You could help a small business financially. You could just simply smile at strangers. You could volunteer your time somewhere, get more involved in your church or community.

“Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” Ephesians‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I believe if you consider each of the above for every goal you log for yourself, you won’t only conquer your goals, but your ambitions will catapult you toward a more meaningful life.

Wishing you the Happiest New Year!!!
